NOTE: Children are always Welcome w/Grownup
  • Children are welcome to be in any class space with their grownup. We ask that they not participate in a class unless the class lists “Youth” and/or “Young Adult” 

Culture
  • These classes will provide an opportunity to experientially learn more about the culture(s) that influence and shape Blues dance(s) with a special emphasis on American Black culture(s). 
Diaspora
  • These classes will focus on technique, context, and/or ​the music of one or more Black Diaspora Dance(s). 
Funky Butt
  • These classes will focus on technique, context, and/or ​the music of the Funky Butt Blues Idiom Dance. 
General Blues
  • These classes will focus on technique, context(s), and/or ​the music(s) that apply to a variety of Blues Dance Idioms. 
Hearing Protection Recommended
  • The live music in these classes will include drums and will be loud. We encourage you to wear hearing protection. We have some ear plugs available at the registration desk. 
Live Music in Class
  • There will be musicians playing music in these classes; come learn from the source. If you know you have sensitive hearing, we encourage you to be ready with hearing protection; we have some ear plugs available at the registration desk. 
Musicality
  • These classes will focus on developing an understanding of and embodied relationship with the Music. 
No Prerequisites
  • There are no prerequisite skills expected for these classes. 
Partnered Dance
  • These classes focuses on dancing with a partner. We will pair you up in class and rotate partners so you get a chance to work with other learners. No partner needed. 
Prerequisites
  • These classes have prerequisite skills that will be built upon in class. It is assumed you are consistently able to demonstrate in your body the skills listed. 
Recommended Prep
  • While these classes do not require you to have certain skills in order to take them, it would still be very helpful to have the recommended skills to support yourself and fellow learners to get the most out of these classes. 
Solo Dance
  • These classes focus on dancing solo (rather than in partnership). 
Storytelling
  • These classes will be filled with stories. We invite you to get comfortable and learn with us. Some chairs will be available to sit on. There may also be some movement in these classes but that is not its primary aim. 
Technique
  • These classes will focus on developing technical skills for dance movements and/or relationships. 
Texas Shuffle
  • These classes will focus on technique, context, and/or ​the music of the Texas Shuffle Blues Idiom Dance. 
Themes

Youth Participate
  • Children are welcome to participate in these classes alongside their grownup. If these classes have partner rotation, children will remain with their grownup and not rotate. 
Young Adult Participate
  • Young adults are welcome to participate and rotate in these classes with approval from their grownup.
